The technology that is involved with sealing products has gone through a number of advancements in recent decades and the heat sealer is one of these newer technologies. Why a heat sealer and what benefit does the actual heat lend to the sealing process?

Plastic Sealing Materials Require Heat

To begin with, plastics are the primary component of a vast majority of todays packaging and sealing systems. While plastics can be glued and this is sometimes done, for the most part it is is heat that is used to bond and form the plastics that are used in a sealing process.

Several Functions of the Actual Heat

Heat sealing can be used to only seal the edges of the plastics that are being used to package a product, or heat can also be a greater function in the process. For instance, items that have to be sterilized can undergone the sterilization process prior to being sealed, or they can be sterilized with the heat that is provided by the heat sealer.

Gas Expands With Heat

A heat sealer can also be used during vacuum packaging. Virtually all gases expand when they are heated, which makes for fewer molecules in a given space. When a heated product is vacuum packed by a heat sealer, any heated gases that are left contained in the package will suck up even tighter once the heat sealed package and the product it contains have cooled.

Perishable Food Items

Food stuffs, in particular can benefit greatly from the heat sealing process in a number of ways. For instance, some perishable foods must be packaged and sealed while they are heated in order that they can be stored without refrigeration. A heat sealer would be the obvious choice as a packaging system in these instances.
