Police have said they are "disgusted" by vandals who caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to electronic traffic signs in rural Stirling.

Three speed activated signs, two of which were erected only a week ago, were damaged in Kippen and Fintry.

The signs were put up after a campaign by the local communities to reduce the speed of traffic in the area.

Central Scotland Police are appealing for anyone with information about the vandalism to contact them.

The damaged signs were discovered on Friday during routine checks.

Constable Andrew Starkie, of the force's collision prevention unit, said it was the third time such signs had been targeted by vandals.

He said: "Both were put up the previous weekend at the request of the communities.

"We are thoroughly disgusted at them being damaged. We were responding to the communities' concerns surrounding road.

"The damage amounts to thousands of pounds and the signs will need to be sent back to the manufacture for repairs." source: bbc news
